Assault is a mobile frontline Specialization built to close distance, force enemies out of safe positions, and punish exposed targets. Its opening movement and push tools create attacks for the rest of the squad.

The standard roster has eight specializations: Assault, Gunslinger, Heavy, Medic, Scoundrel, Scout, Sharpshooter, and Soldier. Choose by squad function rather than treating the list as a universal ranking.

Each Operator receives three Action Points. The tactical core is deciding how to divide them among movement, attacks, and abilities while using cover, reactions, and shared Advantage to control the enemy turn.

Permadeath is enabled by default but can be turned off. Under the standard rule, an Operator dies after three injuries. Hawks is different: if the company leader dies, the mission fails.

Gunslinger is a fast offensive Specialization that rewards chaining attacks. Open Fire can attack twice, Quick Draw refunds an Action Point on a kill, and Onslaught strengthens repeated primary-blaster attacks in one turn.

Heavy is the durable frontline Specialization. It combines extra health and defense with taunts and Retaliation, giving fragile allies room to operate while punishing enemies that focus the Heavy.

Medic prevents a difficult mission from becoming a campaign injury problem. Morale Boost sustains nearby allies, Combat Stim adds healing and offense, and First Responder gives the role a free permanent Medpac.

Scoundrel is an adaptive setup-and-payoff Specialization. It can guarantee the next damaging attack is critical, assist an ally's marked-target attack, and improve both assist damage and defense penetration.

Scout converts reconnaissance into squad-wide opportunities. Combat Recon generates Advantage from detected enemies, The Spotter marks damaged targets, and Ambush turns saved Advantage into a larger attack.

Sharpshooter is the dedicated long-range precision role. Zero In builds accuracy and critical potential while the Operator holds position, Precision Shot guarantees a hit, and Pick Them Off improves Overwatch.

Soldier is the flexible close-to-medium offensive Specialization. Rocket Strike handles groups, Brutal Strike closes distance and Dazes, while Strength and Armsmaster improve melee, grenades, and primary-blaster damage.

A Specialization defines the Operator's main combat role and abilities; a Talent adds a separate character trait or modifier. Authored Operators have fixed Talents, while custom recruits provide more selection freedom.

The four Weapon Classes are Blaster Rifle, Repeater, Blaster Pistol, and Longarm Blaster. Compare their range, damage, and Action Point patterns before matching one to an Operator's role.
