Choose Assault when your squad needs a mobile frontline Operator who can break cover, push enemies into dangerous spaces, and keep pressure on exposed targets.

A frontline Operator engaging enemies at close range

Assault abilities

AbilityTypePractical use
Sweeping SalvoUltimateFires a cone-shaped barrage that damages and disorients multiple targets. Use it when enemies cluster or a whole lane needs to be weakened.
Bull RushStandardCharges into melee, deals impact damage, and pushes the target. Use the displacement to remove cover or expose a follow-up angle.
Fleet of FootPassiveExtends the Operator's first movement. Plan the opening route before spending it on a minor adjustment.
Strike the FlanksPassiveRaises critical chance against exposed enemies or targets out of cover. It rewards attacking after Bull Rush or an ally changes the geometry.

The Assault turn pattern

  1. Identify the enemy whose position is protecting the rest of the group.
  2. Use the first-movement bonus to reach a useful lane without wasting Action Points.
  3. Push or pressure that target out of cover.
  4. Let a ranged ally exploit the new angle.
  5. Finish in cover or behind a frontline screen; mobility does not make Assault invulnerable.

The class is strongest when movement creates value for several Operators. Charging only for personal damage can leave the Assault isolated and give the enemy an easy counterattack.

Weapon pairing

EA's playstyle guidance pairs mobile Assault play with the Blaster Pistol, whose one-Action-Point attacks preserve flexibility after moving. A Blaster Rifle is the steadier beginner option for medium-range pressure.

Neither choice is a permanent universal best. Compare the exact attack costs and ranges in the Weapon Class guide, then choose around the Operator's Talent and your intended final position.

Good squad partners

  • Sharpshooter: benefits when Bull Rush removes a target from cover.
  • Scoundrel: can prepare a guaranteed critical sequence against the newly exposed enemy.
  • Medic: helps an aggressive Operator survive the pressure attracted at the front.
  • Scout: reveals and marks targets so Assault spends movement on the right lane.

Common mistakes

  • Using Fleet of Foot for a tiny reposition before checking the objective route.
  • Pushing an enemy away from the squad's firing lines.
  • Ending beside several enemies with no cover or support.
  • Treating Sweeping Salvo as a single-target button when its cone can disrupt a group.

Assault is not simply “the melee class.” It is a position-breaking class whose damage improves when the whole squad is ready to use the opening.
