All eight standard specializations: Assault, Gunslinger, Heavy, Medic, Scoundrel, Scout, Sharpshooter, and Soldier.

A long-range Operator lining up a shot across a battlefield

Role-first class map

The official gameplay material establishes the available specializations and their tactical identities, but it does not establish a universal tier list. Use this map as an orientation tool, then inspect the actual ability choices in your current roster.

SpecializationPractical battlefield question
AssaultDo you need an Operator built to push the front line?
GunslingerDo you need mobile pistol pressure and flexible engagements?
HeavyDo you need sustained fire and a durable presence?
MedicDoes the squad need stronger recovery and support?
ScoundrelDo you want opportunistic utility and assist-oriented play?
ScoutDo you need information, movement, and setup?
SharpshooterDo you need deliberate long-range elimination?
SoldierDo you need a dependable general-purpose role?

How to choose a starting role

  1. List what the current squad already does reliably.
  2. Identify the job that fails most often: survival, reach, control, support, or finishing power.
  3. Choose a specialization that covers that missing function.
  4. Re-evaluate after new Operators and ability options change the squad.

This method stays useful even when balance changes. A fixed ranking can become stale; a squad need remains visible in the mission plan.

Standard and exotic classes

The developer Q&A distinguishes the eight standard specializations from exotic classes connected to particular characters or story circumstances. Their existence does not expand the standard list into a larger set of freely interchangeable starting classes.

What this guide intentionally does not claim

  • No class is labeled universally best.
  • No launch-day build is presented as patch-proof.
  • No role description is a substitute for reading the abilities available to the specific Operator.

Use the class list to create a balanced company, then let mission demands decide who deploys.
