Bond System in one line: deploy and coordinate Operators together, raise the relationship between that pair, then use Cross Training to turn the stronger Bond into permanent combat benefits.

How Bonds increase
EA identifies several Bond-building routes:
- completing Tactical Missions together;
- participating in Operations and their choices;
- using Call for Backup during combat;
- responding to campaign Dilemmas in ways an Operator approves or dislikes.
Each pair begins with an initial relationship, often neutral or negative. Bond progress belongs to the pair, so a strong relationship with one Operator does not automatically improve every other pairing.
What Bond levels unlock
When a pair reaches a new Bond level, both Operators can Cross Train for a permanent combat-stat bonus. At the maximum Bond level, the pair can unlock a special Cross Training that grants a Passive Ability.
This creates two reasons to plan Bonds:
- the pair gains mechanical support from Cross Training;
- stronger relationships add context to Den conversations, Operations, and story moments.
Specific gain values are not presented here because the official material describes the routes and rewards without publishing a universal point table for every action.
A practical pairing strategy
- Start with two Operators you expect to deploy together for several missions.
- Make sure their battlefield roles also support each other; relationship progress should not force a dysfunctional squad.
- Use Call for Backup when the combined attack is useful, not only to chase Bond progress.
- Review the pair at Personnel after the mission and apply available Cross Training deliberately.
- Rotate a new pairing once the current relationship is stable enough for your campaign goal.
Examples include pairing a frontline Heavy with a Medic, or a Scout with a Sharpshooter who can use Spotted targets.
Dilemmas and approval
At story points, Hawks faces Dilemmas and every Operator can have an opinion. The choice may change a Bond with that character. Some Operations also present decisions that can affect Bonds or later side content.
There is no single “make everyone agree” route guaranteed by the official sources. Read the immediate tradeoff and accept that the company can contain ideological friction.
Is there romance or a branching ending?
No. The developer explicitly says STAR WARS Zero Company has no romance system and no branching-path structure. Squad composition and choices can change Bonds and some story moments, but the overall story remains linear and reaches largely the same conclusion.
That does not make Bonds cosmetic. They still influence support abilities, Cross Training, dialogue context, and the tactical history shared by the pair.
Bonds, Focus, and permadeath
Focus Points are primarily earned by increasing Bonds, connecting relationship building to the Focus Tree. Permadeath raises the cost of concentrated investment: losing one Operator also removes that developed half of multiple pairings.
Build meaningful pairs, but keep enough roster depth that one injury or loss does not collapse every squad plan.
