Focus Tree purpose: turn Focus Points into upgrades for an Operator's Talent, active abilities, and passives. Spend around the actions that Operator performs repeatedly, not around an isolated maximum-rank preview.
Where Focus Points come from
EA identifies two verified routes:
- increasing Bonds, described as the primary source;
- Tactical Mission rewards, when Focus Points appear in the briefing.
That makes Operator progression part of both the relationship layer and mission planning. If two Operators never work together, they can miss a major path to more Focus.
What the tree upgrades
The Personnel Facility combines three related views:
| Layer | Question it answers |
|---|---|
| Talent | What extra trait or modifier distinguishes this Operator? |
| Abilities and passives | Which parts of the current Specialization become stronger? |
| Specialization | Is the Operator still assigned to the right battlefield role? |
The Focus Tree upgrades the first two layers. Specialization choice defines the main kit around which those upgrades matter.
A safe spending order
- Define the Operator's job. Frontline, support, reconnaissance, setup, precision, or flexible offense?
- Identify the most frequent action. Improve a tool used every mission before a situational branch that may never trigger.
- Check the squad. An individual damage increase may be less valuable than a support or survival upgrade that enables three allies.
- Check the next objective. A rescue, defense, and sabotage mission can reward different parts of the same kit.
- Keep the whole build aligned. Talent, Weapon Class, Bond partner, and Specialization should point toward the same turn pattern.
Use the Talents guide and Weapon Class guide alongside the tree rather than treating each screen as an independent tier list.
Can you respec or change Specialization?
EA says most Operators can change their Specialization from Personnel, while authored Operators can have fixed Talents and some fixed Specializations. The developer also describes later secondary or advanced Specialization options.
The exact availability and cost can depend on the Operator and campaign state. Confirm the in-game screen before assuming a current investment is free to reverse.
Why this guide omits a copied node table
The fan-wiki page is useful for identifying questions about tree layers, ceilings, preview changes, and second-Specialization progression. It also records conflicts between preview and launch values. The approved official sources do not expose every node and numeric rank in a stable reference table.
This page therefore does not fill missing nodes by inference, freeze preview values as launch facts, or copy the community table. A later node-by-node build guide needs direct in-game capture tied to a specific version.
Progression checklist
- Current role still correct?
- Most-used ability improved first?
- Bond pair actively generating progression?
- Weapon AP pattern compatible with the upgraded kit?
- Next mission rewards or constraints checked?
- Authored-Operator restrictions verified on screen?
Focus is most efficient when it strengthens a clear plan you can execute next mission.
